In North America, our business units have been actively involved in fundraising campaigns in many ways.
Couche-Tard’s U.S. subsidiary, Circle K, has been a sponsor of the Children’s Miracle Network and the March of Dimes since 1995. Both organizations actively support and improve health care for millions of young people. Thanks to our customers, our store and office staff, the stores in our Midwest and Great Lakes business units raised a combined total of $1.3 million to benefit Children’s Miracle Network hospitals. In November 2014, they had delivered a total of $1.2 million in support of the March of Dimes.
Some of our American business units have been partnering with the American Red Cross to raise money and support the organization helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to all types of emergencies. This year, our Florida business unit collected over $2.1 million through activities from its annual “FishStix” event that brings together all our field operations, management and marketing support staff along with our vendor partners to its store canister program. Our West Coast business unit raised more than $2.2 million through its store canister program.
Our Southwest business unit raised over $2 million through its store canister collections benefiting the Ability Connection, an organization that provides a full range of services for people with physical and intellectual disabilities. Our Arizona business unit raised more than $5.8 million for United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona.
In Québec, Couche-Tard has been a partner of Club des petits-déjeuners du Québec for 10 years now. This year, our business units in Québec raised almost $140,000 through their in-store coffee mug campaigns.
A number of our business units are also involved in the United Way’s annual campaigns. In 2014, our Québec business units raised money through activities such as half-half draws and a silent auction, while employees from our service and distribution centers in the Province contributed through payroll deductions. Couche-Tard also donated and over $120,000 was remitted from our Québec operations to the United Way. In addition, our Midwest business unit’s campaign generated over $7,000 donation to the organization.
Charity Golf Events
In 2014, we raised more than $2.2 million thru Charity Golf Events. Since 1999 our Corporate Office has been holding a Golf Charity Event in Laval, Québec, with the participation of numerous partners. Through the years this activity has achieved profits of nearly $3.8 million, and dozens of charities have benefited as a result. In 2014, $245,000 was donated to charities such as the Marie-Clarac Hospital Foundation, the Québec Cardiology and Respirology University Institute Foundation and L’Ancre des Jeunes (a community organization that helps young people stay in school or support those who want to return to their studies) – to name but a few.
Our Central Canada business unit has run its annual charity golf tournament for more than a decade, supporting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Canada. This year over $81,000 was raised and lifted the total to $1 million over the years. In Western Canada, our business unit has run an annual charity golf tournament for 33 years in support of a range of charities. This year $97,959 was collected to benefit the Brenda Straford Center, a short-term stay facility for women and their children escaping abusive and often violent relationships.
In 2014, the Great Lakes business unit held the 8th Edition of its Charity Open and raised nearly $416,000 to benefit organizations such as the Akron Children’s Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, and the American Diabetes Association, to name a few. The U.S. West Coast business unit raised $354,000 for the American Red Cross. The U.S. Southwest business unit, through two golf events, remitted a total of $ 452,500 to the Ability Connection. The Arizona business unit also held an annual golf event this year and raised a total of $628,000 for the United Cerebral Palsy of Central Arizona.
